As a former health care
provider, I firmly believe in the need for a national health plan.
By this I mean; insurance not socialized medicine, a plan that
will greatly reduce the administrative costs. One that will allow
its insured the privilege of choosing any doctor at any time.
Over the last two decades the
cost of health insurance has sky rocketed, while actual coverage
has fallen greatly.
I recently attended a healthy
care seminar where the instructor recalled an event that happened
to him some twenty years ago. To provide payment for his
treatment, a patient produced an insurance card that provided for
a $500 deductible. He recalled being literally outraged at the
time to the fact that any insurance company would ask for such a
high deductible. Today the story is quite different, rarely ever
does one see a deductible as low as $500, the more common type
ranges between $2500-$5,000 and than you must get prior approval
in all but the most simple procedures.
The plan I have in mind would
be similar in scope to Medi-Care and provide for optional
supplemental programs. Unlike MediCare this plan would be
available to all ages at a minimum cost based solely on one's
current annual income.
In the meantime I've created
the non-profit known as
MiniCare to provide low cost
primary care to everyone, regardless of their economic
circumstances. Look for the opening of a Minicare clinic near you. |
